Kanto Freestyle Breakfast: All Day, All Night Breakfast

Share this PostPin ThisShare on TumblrShare on Google PlusEmail This

Our foodie adventures recently have been about breakfasts. There's just something about the early morning meals that we love. The smell of coffee, or freshly baked bread, the aroma of rice being fried with garlic and butter, and the cool fresh breeze that we get only around breakfast time are just some of the things I love about this meal. Well, with that, we went on an early morning trip to Kanto Freestyle Breakfast at Eastwood, Libis.

Ratings:
Food: 4/5, tasty breakfasts that will surely perk you up.
Prices: 5/5, very affordable prices.
Place: 4/5, the Kapitolyo branch has a nicer ambiance, but the Eastwood branch has better parking spaces
Service: 4/5, prompt service, attentive staff.

The Food
This restaurant is called Kanto Freestyle Breakfast for a reason. You may pick which food item you would want to be in your meal, just like the other breakfast restaurants in the Metro Manila do today. All of these freestyle options are both very affordable and delicious, by the way.

What we ordered though was from their Kanto Boy Breakfast selection - New Zealand Tapa (Php 115), and Crispy Corned Beef (Php 99)

We're actually not sure if the beef tapa is really from New Zealand, but one thing we're sure of is that we loved it. Along with the beef tapa from New Zealand are two eggs, garlic rice and tomato pesto. I really liked their tomato pesto. It gives an Italian twist to this very Filipino tapsilog. The beef on the other hand is tender and tasty. The serving size in Kapitolyo branch though looks bigger than the Eastwood branch.

The Crispy Corned Beef, on the other hand, was not as we expected. What we had in mind was corned beef with some crispy meat or potato. It turned it out that Crispy Corned Beef is a meal of three balled up breaded corned beef, two eggs and garlic rice. Its very affordable price of Php 99 is just reasonable.

They also did a pretty good job with their Mocha Frappe-eh (Php 65). Seeing "Smile"on your morning cup will help lift your spirits up.

The Place
The Eastwood branch is located along Eulogio Rodriguez Jr Ave in the building called Intrepid Plaza. There's nothing special about the place but we liked the colorful paintings and motivational posters hanging on the walls.

I think the area is kinda small but I don't have any qualms with it because the waiters could immediately attend to us.

On the other hand, the Kapitolyo branch is more homey, well, because it is literally located inside the residential compound of the owner (we presume). I liked the Kapitolyo branch better, not just because it was more homey, but because we also experienced bigger servings of food there.

Tips for The Wandering Peasants
  • the prices of the food items in Freestyle Breakfast selection are very affordable. Try all of them in one meal :)
  • The Kapitolyo Branch has better ambiance but parking space is kinda hard to find. The Eastwood Branch is easier to access since it is just along the highway (C5).
  • I heard they are open 24/7, so, eat breakfast at midnight if you like.

The Breakfast Table: Celebrating The Most Important Meal of the Day at Maginhawa Street

Share this PostPin ThisShare on TumblrShare on Google PlusEmail This

In a hunt for a restaurant in Maginhawa for an early breakfast, we turned up at The Breakfast Table at the corner of Maginhawa and Makadios Streets. Certainly, like what their menu says, breakfast is the most important meal of the day so we were really expecting to have a good one here.

Ratings:
Food: 3/5, average, a little more serving would be better.
Place: 4/5, lovely place with blue and white theme which feels like a Greek resto.
Prices: 2/5, for me, the serving size does not justify the somewhat high prices of the food. We've tried better breakfast for a cheaper price.
Service: 2/5, unnecessary long waiting time to clean table up, or deliver the bill. I'm sure the waiters just woke up on the wrong side of their beds that day. ;)

The Food
They have their "build your own" breakfast in which you can choose what food item you would want to include in your order. The food is priced individually and for me, this seems like a good alternative to the usual meal packages.

However, due to my craving for adobo and fish that day, we ordered the Adobo Omurice and the Sardine Omurice along with Papa Diddi's Hot Chocolate.

Adobo Omurice consists of toasted adobo chuncks and adobo rice enclosed in an omelette made with two eggs. It also has a small salad on the sides. What I liked about it are the adobo chunks in the adobo rice, they are kinda tiny though. This for a price of Php 175.00

The Sardine Omurice on the other hand, has Spanish sardines and mildly spicy rice in an omelette made up of two eggs, plus a petite salad on the sides. It tastes decent but I find it not worthy for its price - Php 165.00.

What I liked best though, is their Papa Diddi's Hot Chocolate. It is so rich because it is made from tsokolate de cagayan as indicated on their menu. Its thick and rich chocolate flavor is perfect for any breakfast meal. Good value for the money for this one for just Php 60.00.

Next time we visit, we'll try to build our own breakfast meal.. and by the way, they serve Australian grass-fed beef here. :)

The Place
Their color scheme of blue and white reminds me of a Greek restaurant. The interior really looks neat and the decors are nice. There are bottles on the wall, a shovel converted into a lamp shade, hanging plants, and their high ceiling makes the place feel less cramped.

We arrived for an early breakfast so there are still several parking spaces left on the building, but from what I heard, or experienced in Maginhawa, parking could be a problem during peak hours.

The table setting is quite nice. Their place mats are made from torn jeans and the pockets are used to hold the utensils.

Tips For Wandering Peasants
  •  It seems that the best way to experience this restaurant is to make your own breakfast. This way, you can really choose what you want to include in your meal.
  • If you're a late riser but loves breakfasts, just go here, they serve breakfast all day long.
